New Free Virtual Floppy Web Site Opens Door
Ari Freeman from Oxygen For The Net sent us a note about a new service his company is offering. The company has launched FreeMacSpace.com, a virtual floppy drive for Mac users. It's also for PC users, but hey! :-) According to Mr. Freeman:

iMac and Mac G3 users can now get 25 Megs, the equivalent to approximately 17 floppies, of free disk space for their files accessible from any computer on the Internet. FreeMacSpace.com, a new website service from FreeDiskSpace, offers subscribers a free virtual folders system, where they can upload, store and download all types of files into their personal secured area. "For iMac and G3 users this not only solves the problem posed by the lack of a floppy drive, it also gives business people and students the ability to store files securely and share files with colleagues worldwide," said Ari Freeman, CMO of FreeDiskSpace.

The FreeMacSpace folder service includes password protection, file descriptions, multiple file downloads, free trial versions of software programs and requires no FTP software. Folders can be upgraded to include high security protection through "https" and shared folder access to unlimited amount of users.

"File storage over the Net is the next progressive trend," said Mr. Freeman. "Apple helped introduce this new concept by leaving out a floppy drive on its iMac’s and G3 machines. The concept has already seen acceptance from users with other formats such as MP3, now with faster connections becoming more popular the concept is ready to take off big."

FreeDiskSpace, the company offering the FreeMacSpace.com service, is launching 5 sites that take advantage of this trend. FreePCspace.com, FreeLinuxSpace.com, FreeMP3space.com, FreePDAspace.com are recent sites launched by FreeDiskSpace. "We are developing a network of sites that target segmented user types and trends. We are customizing the sites to the needs of those user groups", said Paul Hirner, COO of FreeDiskSpace.

FreeMacSpace.com is a great service for wired users tired of dealing with floppies, or iMac owners looking to transfer files from work or school to home.
