Apple Computer, Inc. today announced the winners and runners-up of the fourth annual Apple Design Awards for Mac OS developers. The Apple Design Awards recognize outstanding applications developed for the Macintosh platform over the last year and highlight the creativity and innovation of Apple's developer community. The awards were presented during Apple's recent Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) in San Jose, which this year attracted over 2,500 developers, setting an all-time record for paid attendance.
"Developers have rediscovered that Macintosh is where they can create a great business," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "Over 3,100 new or updated Mac software titles have been announced in the last year, and these awards honor the best of them."
Apple Design Award winners and runners-up in each category include:
Best New Product:
- Winner -- REALbasic 1.0, REAL Software
- Runner-Up -- Disk Warrior 1.0, Alsoft
Most Innovative:
- Winner -- Disk Warrior 1.0, Alsoft
- Runner-Up -- REALbasic 1.0, REAL Software
Best Macintosh User Experience:
- Winner -- Food Chain 1.0, Cajun Games
- Runner-Up -- "REALbasic 1.0", REAL Software
Best Apple Technology Adoption:
- Winner -- Cutie Mascot Jr. 1.5, Kohshin Graphic Systems
- Runner-Up -- Virtual Game Station, Connectix
Winners received the stunning new Power Macintosh G3 with matching 21-inch Apple Studio Display. Winners were also awarded a trophy and the right to use the Apple Design Award winner logo on packaging and manuals.
Apple Spokesperson, Russell Brady, told the Mac Observer that Runners Up are also allowed to use the Apple Design Award-Runner Up logo on their packaging.
