Get Paid To Volunteer At Sears!
Doug Landry from The PowerBook Zone tipped us off on a breaking story at his site. MarketSource, the marketing company Apple contracts out AppleReps with, is hiring Mac users to visit Sears retail outlets and help keep them up to speed. Better yet, these hired volunteers are going to be paid for doing exactly what we Mac nuts do for free anyway! :-)

This is from the MarketSource web site:

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking individuals who will be able to visit numerous retail stores in their areas, and complete the following responsibilities on a regular basis:

  • Demonstrate Product Features to Sales Associates and Consumers
  • Replenish Merchandising Materials
  • Ensure effective display and POP placement
  • Monitor Product Inventory & Stock-Outs
  • Install Product Demos
  • Troubleshoot Non-Operational Demo Units in the field
  • Report compliance via web-based reporting system

COMPENSATION

It is beneficial to have as many stores as possible visited by a single rep in certain markets.  Therefore, we encourage you to register to visit as many stores in your area as you can.  The pay rate will be as follows:

  • 1-3 stores visited = $17/visit
  • 4-7 stores visited = $18/visit
  • 8 or more stores visited = $19/visit

Head over to The PowerBook Zone and read more about this.

The Mac Observer Spin: This is a good move by Apple and MarketSource, although MarketSource will need to be careful to keep hired volunteers from becoming snippety with the Sears personnel. Mac fans are a great source of relatively inexpensive help for Apple and MarketSource, but the potential for paid volunteers to become angry at any perceived lack of Mac knowledge on the part of Sears personnel will be great for many of us.

Talk about a talent pool to draw from though! This has the potential of being remarkably successful for Sears and Apple.
