Update: G4 Availability Moved Up To 10 Days
Since we first posted a story about G4 availability, the Apple Store web site has removed the "30 day" notice on the Yikes! based G4s. Furthermore, the Apple Store phone center now says that the units will be delivered within 10 days. According to an anonymous Observer:

Call the apple store and they'll tell you 10 days. They'll also tell you it's a Yikes box, warn that it's a repackaged Yosemite, and advise you that "sawtooth" technology will be shipping in 30 days. Pretty straightforward!

Also indicates perhaps they're not too interested in pushing Yikes boxes, and that it's being produced in low quantities.

We were able to confirm this with a very nice Apple Store operator who also told us that the volume of traffic interested in the G4 was incredible.

Another Observer named Ken told us about the new web site information:

If you go to the Apple Store, you will notice that the base G4 (codenamed Yikes!) appears to be available now.

Thanks to the many Observers who wrote in with information!

The Mac Observer Spin: This is good news. Apple representatives have still not responded to our earlier inquiries, but it seems that the situation is either back on track or there was a simple mix-up with the web site. 10 day availability for the Yikes! systems is close enough for immediate availability. Retailers may not be so charitable however as they are still looking at 30-60 days before they see any inventory.
