Stop worrying about RIAA inability to adjust.
Stop trying to stop the future; let them go out of business. This will solve the problem completely.
In the future, artist will sell their music as downloads. They will use Apple and/or whomever to distribute music directly for them. The profits will go to the distributors and artists. No other middlewomen will get a cut. Prices will be lower, but not as low as it could be by long shot. But at least a lot more will be going to the creators.
Good points, Guest. My frustration is definitely with what's happening in the Now. My hope is that more and more music will be able to cut out the middle man, though I don't think we're even close to that being practical for many reasons.
One of the major reasons for this is that while it is ever cheaper to record music, it does still require capital. Supplying that capital one of the principal roles that the labels have always played.
Still, I think your points about the future are poignant, and the broader picture is much more important than the issues I was getting tense about during this episode of The Apple Weekly Report.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
