As always I enjoyed your podcast, and while I disagree with much of the recent criticism about Apple, the bricking, etc., much is subjective, but you guys and your guest neglected to consider something that is monumentally important.
Should the 99% of all iPhone owners, who understood the licensing and usage agreements and see the iPhone simply as what it is - an incredible cell phone that does a lot more, and will certainly do even more in the future - be denied this update and added functionality in order to accommodate a tiny minority who violated the agreements? Or even have to wait while hackers are accommodated? I don't care how eloquent and well thought out the arguments you presented are, I seriously can't see the "legal" and more patient majority be inconvenienced in any way whatsoever because some people need instant gratification like a bunch of spoiled brats.
Just my two cents.

Touchй.. couldn't agree with you more.
I have to say that I I have been a bit worried about this whole Apple business as well. There seems to be a lot of self responsibility issues here. While no one had to buy $600 iPhones or hack open their iPhones, plenty of people are happy to bitch about it. On the other hand, if Apple loses a few customers and loyalty points because of some harsh decisions, it's their own fault. I do worry about the internet hype that surrounds all this, because it also seems blown out of proportion in terms of timing. Yeah, Apple is very keen on making their stuff the coolest and the Steveliest, but it seems to me that with all their successful products, they are vigilant in keeping their products as Apple like as possible, they do also let the market shape and share their visions; and it takes longer than 4 months. Let's face it. Steve would've like to keep the Mac, just as it was, but at some point Apple acquiesced and we have a variety of Macs for all users; and they're pretty customizable. It takes time, which internet hype doesn't seem to allow for. The other unknown factor, (as far as I know) is that who knows what's in all of Apple's legal agreements, AT&T may have been pretty insistent on keeping the iPhone locked; it seems like we all throw around all these opinions, but we are still missing some facts. And yes, it would be helpful if Apple filled in the blanks. But it's Apple and well...
Given all this, I have to say that I am still a drinker of the Apple Kool-aid, especially since while I was listening to this podcast, I was helping a friend install AT&T DSL on her slow as molasses XP Windows machine. 4 hours, 2 customer services calls to AT&T later, I'd have less of a headache if I'd just hit myself with a hammer. Oh and it's still not working.
Love the show, thanks guys-
