This podcast is recorded on an iMac (Core 2 Duo Mid 2007) using Audio Hijack Pro and routing courtesy of WireTap Anywhere. As for equipment, John is using a Heil PR-40 microphone going through a Behringer Eurorack UB1222FX-PRO mixer, monitored with Etymotic ER-6i Isolator earphones, then straight in to his Mac. On Dave's end, a Heil PR-40 microphone is also used, and the whole show is mixed "live" through a Mackie Onyx 1220 FireWire-enabled mixer before being pumped back into the Mac (via FireWire, of course), and is monitored with Westone ES2 custom-fit earphones. When PilotPete is in the house, he's usually talking through a Heil PR-30. Each microphone is run through a channel on a Behringer Autocom Pro-XL MDX1600 compressor, a touch of reverb is added with an ART FX-1 processor, and the whole thing is then compressed in software on the Mac. The show is recorded to AIFF, and then converted and uploaded with an Automator script. Michael Johnston from iPhone Alley then goes through and enhances the show to provide you with the AAC version. You can hear more details of the setup and how it's mixed on Episode #32.

Theme Music: "The Answer", written by Jeff Steblea and Brian Ayles, as performed by Go Figure. "Made On A Mac" bumper by Mark Fleser

Subject: Want a better 802.11 router?

I had the WRT54GS for a couple years. I kept having dropout issues with it -- not a big problem for web browsing or downloading email, but terminal (if you'll pardon the pun) for SSH sessions.

I traded it out for a D-Link DIR-655 N-router, and the performance improved on my G-devices, and I quit having dropouts! Plus, the facilities on it are much more professional and robust than the simplistic LinkSys setup.

And it works great with my Mac! Setup is all browser-based, and is a real snap.

BTW, thanks for another great episode! Keep 'em coming!

Subject: 1Password Comment

One small comment regarding 1Password you have been raving about several times now: isn't it true that it doesn't make sense to use 1Password unless you actually using only Macs? I imagine generating a strong password for some web account and then trying to log into that account using my Linux machine (just to avoid any Windows bashing of course ). I would not have 1Password on that machine as it is not available cross-platform and there is no way to comfortably look up and/or enter that password. I would be basically locked out, isn't that true?

Thanks for the good show! I enjoy it very much!

Subject: Battery calibration

Good summary on battery calibration. I would only add that a handy utility for helping with this is Coconut Battery @ http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/

Displays current battery specs and keeps a log of your calibration routines.

Great show guys!

The 1password guys did have a web-based service that you could sync with called my1password, but they are phasing it out. However, they promise to replace it with some sort of method, cross-platform, that would allow you to access your passwords from something like a USB key or a service like DropBox.

See http://support.agilewebsolutions.com/showthread.php?t=12325

However, if you are looking to generate passwords in Linux as well, then I'd agree - 1password is probably not going to cut it.
