APPL Drops Following WWDC Keynote
APPL Drops Following WWDC Keynote

Apple's stock price didn't rise along with the spirits of the developers at the company's World Wide Developer Conference keynote presentation on Monday. The Cupertino company's stock opening this morning at US$184.92, but had dropped down close to $177 after CEO Steve Jobs finished his keynote presentation.
Mr. Jobs introduced a revamped version of the iPhone, dubbed iPhone 3G, with most of the features analysts and users had been hoping for. The new model will include built-in 3G wireless data networking in addition to the EDGE support found on the first generation model, a built-in GPS with real-time mapping and tracking, a thinner body, and more. It will also make less of a dent in customer's pocketbook with a price point that comes in $200 below the original at $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model.
Investors may be concerned about the window between when the iPhone 3G was announced and when it will be available. The new model will ship on July 11, which means that there are essentially no iPhones available until then because the channels have already been nearly depleted of the first generation model.
Apple's stock is currently trading at $179.06, down 7.99 (4.3%) compared to Friday's closing.

Jobs looked like a refugee on stage, at least in the Engadget pics. By MWSF, he'll be using a walker and talking out a breathing tube. Yikes! Mix in a steak or a burger Steve!
Update: I wasn't the only one to notice. Drudge has a comment on his site with a link to a picture that doesn't say anything about Jobs' health. This doesn't look good.

Jobs is not particularly young and he's had serious health issues in the past. His vegan diet may or may not be helping his situation. Of course, many more people his age are overweight or obese, which is a major risk factor for all sorts of problems.
There are some people who attempt to make a "scientific" case for a vegan diet, ignoring a few hundred millenia of human evolution, including the fact that we have gall bladders. Those people are blowing smoke, IMNSHO, but I have no problem with those who choose a vegan diet for moral reasons, as long as they don't attempt to inflict their diets upon others.
Personal note: A bit more than a year ago, I was obese, at 240 lbs, 5'9". I now weigh about 180 lbs, which is still overweight, but I'm in the 43rd percentile for my age and height among men in the US. According to WHO, the maximum "normal" weight for my age and height would be 169 lbs, but that would be the 29th percentile. IOW, 71% of 60-year-old, 5'9" tall men in the US are "overweight." I have mild hypertension and Type II diabetes, both under control through diet and medication. If I had kept my weight under control earlier, I may have staved off the diabetes a few more years. I was pretty likely to develop diabetes based on genetics. I am appalled by young people in their 20s who are obviously obese yet cram their faces with burgers, fries, pizza, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, gravy, etc.. They are eating themselves to death. (I overheard one young woman in an Izzy's restaurant say that she was just having "salad"--potato salad, macaroni salad, pasta salad--nary a fresh vegetable on her plate.)

Well I too noticed that Steve looked a bit thinner and remembered his pancreas cancer a while back and am hopping that he doesn't have another health problem.
My personal note: I look a bit more like Woz than Jobs and my doctor recommended that I lower my fat intake. Perhaps I took it too far and lost my gall bladder because of it. Some sources say that not enough fat in the diet can cause gall bladder problems, mine was necrotic and I had gangrene. Thinking that I just had indigestion I almost took too long to head for the emergency room, damn near croaked.

The thing that makes Steve Jobs such a successful genius is that he is an over-the-top screwball. From the tirades over bottled water, to the black mock turtleneck, to the vegan diet, to the obsession with secrecy, to the faux coyness when he came back to Apple... He is a screwball, but he's our screwball.
I don't care how fat the rest of us are. He is way too thin. He looks like he's been on a hunger strike, except that nobody told him that hunger strikers do it in shifts these days so that nobody has to go more than 24 hours without a tofu burger and soy milk.
