Adding Internet Radio Station to iTunes
TMO Quick Tip - Adding Internet Radio Station to iTunes
by , 7:30 AM EST, March 20th, 2006
iTunes has a large selection of Internet-based radio stations that you can listen to, but what if your favorite isn't on the list? No problem: As long as you know what the URL is for the radio station's MP3 streaming content, just add it yourself. Here's how:
- While iTunes is running, choose Advanced > Open Stream.
- Enter the URL for the Internet radio station's stream in the Open Stream window's URL field.
- Click the OK button.
![]() Enter the URL for radio station you want to add to iTunes. |

I made a new playlist and added my favorite Internet radio stations to it so that I don't have to dig through my iTunes Library each time I want to listen to a station.
![]() Add the stations you listen to all the time to a playlist so they are easier to find. |

How do you find the URL? That's the biggest problem. I've used Radio-Locator <http://www.radio-locator.com/> but it doesn't always have the complete URL.
Any suggestions?
If I'm adding a new station to iTunes, it's usually one that I already know about. The example I used in this Quick Tip is from a local Public Radio station Web site <http://www.cpr.org/>. They have links on the front page for the classical music and news services they host. If there is a specific radio station you are interested in, check the station's Web site. If the station streams its programming, the link should be fairly prominently listed.

Too bad this trick doesn't work with international broadcasters like BBC, RCI, ABC, etc. You're stuck with RealPlayer or NO PLAYER. Years ago you could get BBC via QuickTime but that didn't last long. Such is the way of Apple, the world, and the rest of life...

The problem is some feeds are not QuickTime compatible. Here’s a link to note which ones are not.
We have tons of URLS at http://www.penguinradio.com/
Usually you can get the stream URL from Itunes, Real or Windows Media player by hitting Apple-I for info. That usually display the stream URL (note: the url of the stream is not always the same as the URL of the playlist (.pls file)
Hi there,
I would like to play this URL: http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/lifestyles/flash/af_radio/af_radio.html
Thru iTunes - how do I get it to work?
I'm still gutted at the demise of Massinova a couple of years ago and can't bring myself to bother much about any other station.
That said, perhaps its time to get off my ar** and try some others. Is their anyone out there who remembers Massinova and knows any stations that offer an online request system like they did? If so please let me know and I'll add them to my iTunes radio station list. ![]()
