TMO Quick Tip - Avoiding Email Attachment Size Limitations

by , 7:30 AM EDT, April 28th, 2006

Using your email account to exchange files with other people is a handy and easy way to get documents where they need to go, regardless of where in the world that may be. Unfortunately, most email services restrict the maximum file size of your attachments, which can be a real pain if you need to send a 12MB file and you are limited to 10MB. One way to work around the attachment size limitation is with Dropload.

Dropload handles large attachments that email servers block.

Dropload is a free Internet-based service that lets you transfer files up to 100MB in size. The service is easy to use: you create your own Dropload account, and then upload your large document. Dropload sends an email to the recipient and gives them instructions so that they can use their Web browser to download the file. Downloads are automatically deleted from the Dropload server, so you don't even have to worry about removing the file yourself.

Sure, there are plenty of other ways to get files to someone else, like FTP sites, .Mac, and the old standby of mailing a CD, but Dropload gives you a reliable way to transfer large files in a pinch.

Use iChat/AIM file transfer.

It's very handy.

"Dropload", "in a pinch"... You missed saying that your files just "float" on the site until they are automatically "flushed away".

Better alternative. You can pay to have 1gb of transfer size if you wish but 100gb is the free b.
