Auto-Click Tab Sets in Safari

TMO Quick Tip - Auto-Click Tab Sets in Safari

by , 7:30 AM EDT, October 11th, 2006

If you have a group of Web sites you like to visit, Safari gives you an easy way to open them as a group of tabs or windows with a single mouse-click. It's called Auto-Click.

Here's how to create an Auto-Click set:

  • Launch Safari. If it isn't in your Dock, go to Applications/Safari.
  • Click the Bookmarks button in the Bookmarks bar.
  • Select Bookmarks Bar, and then create a set of bookmarks. I named mine "click me!"
  • Check the Auto-Click box.

Select Bookmarks, and then use Auto-Check to make a one-click bookmark set.

Your bookmark set appears in the Bookmarks bar. The small block to the right of your set's name is a visual cue to let you know it is an Auto-Click set. When you click the set name, each site will automatically open.

Click your Auto-Click set...

My "click me!" set includes six sites, so six tabs open for me - and in the order I entered them when I created my set. Your tab or window order corresponds to the order of the bookmarks in your set. Reordering the bookmarks will change the tab or window order, too.

...to open all of its bookmarks together.

Clicking on the name of a folder of bookmarks in the Safari bookmark bar will accomplish the same thing without changing any of your preferences. Really handy.

Clicking the mousewheel defaults to Command click behaviour in tab collections in any old USB mouse (in my experience - unless you reconfigured it). so you can left button click for all of em, or mousewheel click to select individual bookmarks, no keyboard required either way.

This also reveals Docked applications in the finder (if you mousewheel click them).

Subject: clarification

Subject of the previous post says "command click" but the content starts with "Clicking". The former is correct.

While this is great tip, and one I now use (Thanks, Jeff.), be careful when selecting the bookmark set while having other pages open in Safari. Doing so eliminates any current pages; only the bookmark set are displayed.

LOL, Clicking (the mousewheel) = command click, which as you could read in my post, is the point!
