iCal: Quick-change Views
TMO Quick Tip - iCal: Quick-change Views

Apple's iCal includes buttons that make it easy to switch between week and day views that work just as you would expect. Like any good Mac application, it also includes keyboard shortcuts to switch views, but it also lets you choose to display any number of days from a week.

To view a full seven day week in iCal, type Command-Option-7, and to view a single day, type Command-Option-1. Use any number between one and seven to see the matching number of days.

I use Command-Option-6 to display six days in a row whenever I want to see Saturday and Sunday grouped together -- something that isn't possible from iCal's preferences.

That is not quite true. In iCal's preferences, I have my week set to start on Monday. So the Week view always shows Monday through Sunday, keeping my weekends grouped together for viewing.

You are correct that you can see Saturday and Sunday together by setting your week to start on Monday (or any day that isn't Sunday). What I like about viewing six days at a time via the keyboard shortcut is that I can slide forward and backwards and see several days on either side of the weekend without jumping back to my iCal preferences to change the view settings. That way I can keep my normal view set to start my week on Sunday, which is typically how I like to see my calendar.
