Safari's Drag-able Tabs

TMO Quick Tip - Safari's Drag-able Tabs

by , 7:30 AM EDT, April 7th, 2008

Safari 3 makes it much easier to work with tabs, which means it's much easier to work with all of the Web pages we want to keep open. I've already talked about how to make new tabs in Safari 3.1 with just your mouse, but you can do even more with those tabs, like move them to different windows.

Drag tabs out of the Tab Bar...

If you have multiple tabs open in a Safari window, you can drag any of those tabs out of the Tab Bar to create a new window. This is really handy if you want to organize tabs in different windows.

...to create new Safari browser windows.

You can also drag tabs between windows, which is great if you want to consolidate Web pages in a single Safari window.

Rearranging tabs in a single Safari window is easy, too. Just drag tabs to the left or right to reorder them to your liking.

Subject: Drag Direction is Important

I'm sure most people will catch on to this sooner or later, but in order to move the tab out of a window you have to first start dragging it either up or down. If your first move is either left or right then your drag is interpreted as wanting to reorder the tab within the same Safari window.

safari should put more attention on how to create a new tab easier, rather than how to create a new window easier.

Its just totally wrong direction.

Did you really laugh out loud, or do you just prepend that on everything you write?

And how difficult is it to open either a new window or tab?
