Leopard: Check Out Fonts with Quick Look

TMO Quick Tip - Leopard: Check Out Fonts with Quick Look

by , 9:00 AM EDT, April 28th, 2008

Quick Look is a great addition to Mac OS X 10.5 because it lets you view file without having to launch any applications, or without even having to install the application that created the document. That features works with other items on your hard drive, too, including fonts.

To preview a font, just select it and tap the Space bar. Just like any other document Quick Look recognizes you'll see a preview, but in this case you'll see a sample of the font instead of the contents of a document.

Quick Look previews fonts, too.

You don't need to load the font for use in applications to take advantage of Quick Look's font preview, so this is an easy way to check out a font before adding it to your system.

What is the directory file path to the file you clicked on (space bar) to reveal that graphic, i.e., what file do I take a Quick Look at to see the fonts?
thanks

Either your hard drive Library>Fonts
or you home folder Library>Fonts.
Depends where you installed fonts in the first place, but inevitably, a bunch of fonts will be in both folders.

Doing this is really no easier than opening Font Book or using the free Linotype FontExplorer X.
