Elon Musk Flags “Unreasonable Power” in Apple Google AI Partnership

Elon Musk Warns About Apple and Google Tying Siri to Gemini

Elon Musk has raised concerns after Apple and Google confirmed a new partnership tied to Apple Intelligence. The deal brings Google’s Gemini models into future Apple software, including a more personalized version of Siri. Musk says this setup gives Google too much influence over the AI ecosystem.

Musk flags power concerns

Elon Musk reacted soon after the announcement.

“This seems like an unreasonable concentration of power for Google, given that they also have Android and Chrome.”

Musk shared the comment on X, pointing to Google’s control across mobile software, browsers, and now AI systems that could reach Apple users. His concern focuses on scale, not on Siri features themselves.

It also matters who is speaking. Musk runs xAI, the company behind Grok, which competes directly with Gemini. That context shapes his reaction, but it does not change the core issue he raised about market concentration.

Apple and Google confirm the deal

News From Google published a joint statement confirming the partnership.

“Apple and Google have entered into a multi year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology.”

The statement adds that these models will help power future Apple Intelligence features. A more personalized Siri sits at the center of that plan.

Apple has not shared an exact launch date. Tim Cook said the revamped Siri will arrive as part of iOS 26.4, likely in March or April. Until then, Apple continues to frame Gemini as one component within its broader on-device and server-side AI strategy.

Musk’s comments arrive against a tense backdrop. Last year, xAI filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of working together to protect their dominance in the AI market. That legal fight remains unresolved.

For now, neither Apple nor Google has responded publicly to Musk’s criticism. If they do, the focus will likely return to how much control Apple keeps over Siri and how deeply Gemini actually runs under the hood.
