4-Port USB 2.0 Hub Announced

IOGEAR has announced a USB 2.0 4-port hub for Mac OS X. Apple is not yet shipping USB 2.0 in its PowerMac line, but there have been some USB 2.0 PCI cards which have begun to appear on the market. The hub allows up to 4 devices to be attached and will transmit data at up to 480 mbps. According to IOGEAR:

IOGEAR introduces the worldis first certified USB 2.0 four-port hub to support multiple peripherals which offer transfer rates of 480 mbps, 40 times faster than original USB technology.

IOGEARis next-generation hub offers increased functionality and greater compatibility with USB 2.0 products as well as with current USB 1.1 peripherals. It allows hardware enthusiasts to daisy chain up to 127 different devices for instant access. The hub will begin shipping in September 2001. It will be available from all major catalog resellers, online resellers and selected retail outlets.

IOGEARis USB 2.0 hub (GUH204) supports Mac OS X or greater and Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME and XP systems. It comes equipped with a standard three-year warranty, one USB 2.0 A to B cable and DC5V 2.6A power adapter.

IOGEAR has not yet added information about the new hub to its Web site as of this writing. The hub is priced at US$59.
