August 9th, 2000 at 3:00 PM - News by Michael Munger
While we know that Apple.com consistently draws over 1 million visitors each month based on results generated by the PC Data and their Top 10 rankings, a new study shows that the Apple site is one of the most linked to sites on the web. According to WebsMostLinked.com, Apple.com is ranked 16th overall when it comes to the number of links found that lead to its site.
The WebsMostLInked.com Top 20 sites:
- Yahoo!
- Yahoo! GeoCities
- Netcenter [Netscape]
- Adobe
- AOL
- Lycos
- Excite
- Altavista
- Angelfire Free Homepages
- Digital.com
- NASA
- Mindspring Enterprises
- Infoseek
- Real.com
- University of Illinois
- Apple
- HotBot
- Reel.com
- Tripod
- Web.com
WebsMostLinked has their own system for sorting and identifing the most linked sites. According to WebsMostLinked:
After using a proprietary system to collect this data (which filters out junk and collects information from a wide variety of various sources), each site is given a "popularity factor". Sites are ranked in descending order of their popularity factor. We have found this to be the most reliable system available.
While Apple is one of the most linked sites, there is a discrepency as to the overall popularity of the site. 100hot.com has Apple ranked as the 55th most popular site, while Web100.comis listing does not include Apple, or many of the above sites, on their list. One other ranking, Netscape Communicatoris "Whatis Related" feature, places Appleis site as the 298th most popular on the Web.
