Apple Acknowledges Intermittent MacBook Shutdowns

Apple has published a brief note on its Support Web site acknowledging a problem some users are having with their MacBooks shutting down randomly, saying simply: "If your MacBook is shutting down intermittently, please contact AppleCare for service." Macworld UK noted: "An undetermined but minority number of users have experienced a problem in which their MacBook begins inexplicably shutting down during normal use."

The news site also said: "This problem is understood to manifest itself after the computer has been used without problem for an indeterminate time. Some reports claim that random shutdowns also occur when the MagSafe Power Adaptor is suddenly removed from the Mac."

A Web site was started at the beginning of June by a frustrated MacBook owner who wanted to document the problems with his new laptop.
