Apple Acquires Proximity

The broadcast media asset management company Proximity announced on Monday that is has been purchased by Apple Computer. The companyis artbox workgroup and artbox enterprise are commonly used by TV networks to track and manage media clips.

Proximityis Web site states "We are pleased to announce that all Proximity technology and intellectual property, including artbox workgroup and artbox enterprise, was recently acquired by Apple." Customers with existing support agreements will be contacted by Apple.

Appleis track record of purchasing media-related companies goes back several years, and the acquisition of Proximity helps solidify the companyis position in the video software market.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
