Apple Announces Major Price Decrease For Titanium PowerBooks

Apple has announced a major price cut on the Titanium PowerBook G4 portables. The company is dropping the price of the 400 MHz model by US$400 and the 500 MHz model by US$500. As reported by MacMinute yesterday, Apple has also stopped the offer of a free VST CD-RW unit with each PowerBook. The offer was originally supposed to be good until September 3rd, but that offer is not good with the new price cuts. From Apple:

Apple® today announced that starting tomorrow customers can purchase the award-winning Titanium PowerBook® G4 starting at $2,199 for the 400 MHz model and $2,999 for the 500 MHz model, a price drop of $400 and $500 respectively.

With its 15.2-inch mega-wide display, blazingly fast PowerPC G4 processors, and built-in FireWire port, the Titanium PowerBook G4 is the ultimate portable video editing system when combined with iMovie 2, Appleis easy-to-use consumer digital video editing software, or its award-winning Final Cut Pro professional video editing, effects and compositing software.

The Titanium PowerBook G4 models are available at these new lower prices starting tomorrow through The Apple Store, at Appleis retail stores, and through Apple Authorized Resellers in two standard configurations:

  • Titanium PowerBook G4 with a PowerPC G4 400 MHz processor with 1MB level 2 backside cache, 128MB PC-100 SDRAM, a 10GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, ATI RAGE Mobility 128 featuring AGP 2X support and 8MB SDRAM of video memory, built-in 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, FireWire and USB ports, VGA and S-Video ports, AirPort™ ready, built-in 56K V.90 modem, iTunes and iMovie 2 for a suggested retail price of $2,199 (US); and
  • Titanium PowerBook G4 with PowerPC G4 500 MHz processor with 1MB level 2 backside cache, 256MB PC-100 SDRAM, 20GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, ATI RAGE Mobility 128 featuring AGP 2X support and 8MB SDRAM of video memory, built-in 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, FireWire and USB ports, VGA and S-Video ports, AirPort ready, built-in 56K V.90 modem, iTunes and iMovie 2 for a suggested retail price of $2,999 (US).
