Apple Granted Patent for Square-Base iMac

· by · News

Apple was granted a patent on September 20, 2005, for an apparent iMac design with a square base, flat panel display and a movable elbow jointed arm connecting the two. On September 27, they were granted a second patent for a similar design without the elbow joint. Both were originally filed in July, 2004, and resemble the now discontinued dome shaped iMac.

Based on the design, it looks like these may be concepts that were never developed, but Apple still wants to protect. Typically, Appleis designs are far more elegant than these patent applications depict, so itis unlikely that these represent models that will ever see the light of day.
