Apple Makes All Desktop Warranties Global

Two sources with knowledge of Appleis reseller practices have confirmed with The Mac Observer that, effective Feb. 11, all of Appleis desktop product warranties are now global. This means that anyone who purchases a desktop Mac, including Xserve and Xserve RAID, can have it serviced under its warranty in another country.

However, as AppleInsider pointed out when it covered the news, region-specific parts will be used when making repairs. "As an example," the Web site noted, "Apple said if a system purchased in the US. is taken to Japan and the AirPort Card is defective, it will be replaced with a Japanese AirMac Card."

The change in warranty coverage affects the AppleCare Protection Plan, AppleCare Repair Agreement, AppleCare Parts Agreement and AppleCare Premium Service and Support for Xserve and Xserve RAID.
