Apple Nixes Single Processor Power Mac in Certain Markets

· by Brad Gibson · News

Apple Computer has quietly removed its 1.8GHz Power Mac G5 from sale through its online Apple Store in the U.S. and Canada, TMO readers have reported.

The model is still available on Appleis online stores in the U.K., Ireland, Taiwan, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, South Africa, the Asia Pacific region including Australia, Germany, France, Finland, Denmark, China, Brazil, Berlgium, Austria, South Korea, Singapore, India and Hong Kong, Norway, The Netherlands, Korea, Japan, and Italy.

If and when the model is eliminated in all geographic regions, Apple will have switched totally to dual-processor Power Mac G5 systems, starting at a minimum speed of 2 gigahertz. Customers not needing dual-processor capabilities will have only one option -- the single processor 17- or 20-inch G5 iMac.
