Apple Not Looking to Take On TiVo

· by · News

Although the new Intel-based Mac mini is packed with features that make it a great addition to your home theater system, itis not intended to replace your TiVo. Appleis senior vice president, Phil Schiller, commented to USAToday "Weire not trying to replace the TiVo. This is about taking the media from your computer and accessing it via the TV."

Unlike TiVo, the Mac mini lacks a TV tuner and recording functions. Both devices, however, can access music from shared iTunes libraries, images from shared iPhoto libraries, and play music from Internet radio stations.

Mr. Schiller implied that Apple doesnit plan on adding TV recording capabilities to the mini, either. He commented that recording functionality would make the Mac mini too complicated.
