Apple announced the immediate availability of Apple Remote Desktop 3 (ARD) on Tuesday. ARD is a network-based remote management system for controlling multiple Macs, installing software and other updates, and monitoring workstation activity. The new version adds support for remote Spotlight searches, Automator actions, and AutoInstall for applying updates to mobile Macs automatically when they return to the local network. It also supports remote status monitoring of each Mac on the network, offers improved file copy and transfer features, and AES 128-bit encryption for secure communication between workstations.

Apple Remote Desktop 3 is priced at US$299 for managing 10 Macs, or $499 for unlimited Macs.
