Apple Sells 2M Copies of Leopard in First Weekend

October 29th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - News by Jeff Gamet

Appleis Mac OS X 10.5, or Leopard, seems to be off to a fast start. The Cupertino company announced on Tuesday that it has already sold over two million copies of its latest operating system in the first weekend it was available. The first weekend sales figures for Leopard outpaced Mac OS X 10.4 opening weekend sales, making it the most successful OS launch in the companyis history.

Leopard was released on Friday, October 26 after a delay of several months. Customers lined up outside Appleis retail stores -- in some cases hours in advance -- to get copies as soon as they were available.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs commented "Early indications are that Leopard will be a huge hit with customers."

The sales figures include copies sold at Apple retail stores, Apple Authorized Resellers, the online Apple Store, under maintenance agreements, and those bundled with new computers. Mac OS X 10.5 is priced at US$129 for a single user license, or $199 for a five-user family pack.
