Apple Settles Display Color Lawsuit
March 25th, 2008 at 3:00 PM - News by Jeff Gamet
A May 2007 lawsuit against Apple that alleged the company misled customers with claims of the number of colors its laptop displays can show finally has some closure. Apple settled out of court with the plaintiffs over undisclosed terms, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The class action suit was filed last May by pro photographers Fred Greaves and Dave Gatley after the two bought Apple laptops based on the companyis claims that the displays can show millions of colors. The suit alleged "The displays are only capable of displaying the illusion of millions of colors through the use of a software technique referred to as iditheringi."
The attorney for Mr. Greaves and Mr. Gatley, Peter Polischuk, said that Apple "made a misrepresentation. They have a drop-down menu [in Mac OS X] that lets you choose to display millions of colors."
He added that his clients chose not to pursue the class action suit any further because they couldnit find enough people that bought a MacBook or MacBook Pro strictly on Appleis claims that the displays show millions of colors.
