Apple Springs 8-core Xserve

Along with the new eight core Mac Pro, Apple also introduced the new eight core Xserve 1U rack mount server on Tuesday. Like itis Mac Pro cousin, the Xserve now supports two Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors.


Appleis 8-core Xserve

The new Xserve with a single Quad-Core 2.8Ghz Intel Xeon processor with 12MB of L2 cache, a 1600MHz front side bus, two PCI Express 2.0 slots, 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 ECC FB-DIMM memory, an 80GB SATA hard drive, built-in graphics support for up to a 23-inch Cinema Display, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, two FireWire 800 ports, three USB 2.0 ports, and an unlimited client license for Mac OS X 10.5 Server.

Build-to-order options include dual 2.8GHz or 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, 80GB and 1TB 7200RPM SATA hard drives, 73GB and 300GB 15,000RPM SAS hard drives, Xserve RAID card, up to 32GB RAM, additional Gigabit Ethernet ports, 4Gb Fibre Channel support, U320 SCSI expansion, and a 750W redundant power supply.

Pricing for the new Xserve starts at US$2,999.
