Apple Updates eMac to 1.42GHz

Apple Computer quietly updated its eMac line of all-in-one desktops Tuesday, increasing its G4 processor speed to 1.42 gigahertz (GHz) from 1.25 GHz.

The two new models are the low-end, 1.42 GHz eMac with 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM, a 80 gigabyte (GB) hard drive (up from 40GB), and a Combo drive for US$799. The top-line model is also 1.42 GHz with 512MB of memory (up from 256MB in the older model), a 160GB hard drive (up from 80GB), and a 8X SuperDrive for $999.

Both models come with 17-inch CRT displays, an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics processor, 64MB of video memory, built-in 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, a 56K V.92 modem, Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, and Appleis iLife i05 software suite.

Apple Online Store shows availability of the new models to be one to two business days.
