Canon Announces Lighter, Smaller PowerShot A510 Digital Camera

· by Brad Gibson · News

Canon USA announced Thursday a new digital camera for its PowerShot A-series that marries 3.2 megapixel resolution with a 4x optical zoom lens.

The PowerShot A510 (see photo below) is the father to the A75, with a number of new features. Instead of using four AA batteries, the A510 now uses only two, but with the same amount of battery life, the camera sports a large 1.8-inch LCD screen.

In order to make the camera smaller, Canon engineered the new PowerShot A510 model to accept Secure Digital media, meaning it is 10% lighter and 14% smaller than the A75.

Night Snapshot and Kids & Pets scene modes are new additions, and changes have also been made to the self-timer and image review functions.

The A510 will ship by the end of January, the company said, and will retail for US$199.99.
