Casady & Greene Discontinues SoundJam MP At Developer’s Request

May 6th, 2001 at 3:00 PM - News by Bryan Chaffin

Casady & Greene has announced that the company will no longer work on their excellent MP3 player, SoundJam MP. SoundJam MP was one of the first MP3 players for the Mac, and it was reportedly developed by the same people who developed iTunes for Apple. Casady & Greene is saying that it was the developers of the product that requested the SoundJam MP be discontinued. iTunes is a free download, while SoundJam MP, which has such features as an outstanding EQ and a plugin structure for Skins and Visualizations, was a commercial product. From Casady & Greeneis Web site:

Important Information for Our Customers

Casady & Greene, Inc. will cease publication of SoundJam MP as of June 1, 2001 at the request of the developers. We believe that SoundJam MP will continue to give our customers long and useful service, and, in keeping with our philosophy of putting our customers first, Casady & Greene will continue to offer tech support to SoundJam MP owners. The SoundJam development team is now working for Apple on their popular iTunes jukebox software, and will continue to work on exciting and innovative products for Mac users.

Casady & Greene Inc. continues as publishers of Mac Care Unit, Conflict Catcher, Spell Catcher, Chaos Master, InfoGenie 2 and Grammarian in addition to our games. We feel that those of you who are able to purchase SoundJam MP Plus before its necessary cessation are indeed fortunate.

You can read the note on Casady & Greeneis Web site. We hope to have more information tomorrow. Thanks to Observer James Miranda for his help with this article.
