DEVONtech Updates DEVONthink With Speed Enhancements

DEVONtechnologies has released an update for DEVONthink , bringing it to version 1.6. DEVONthink is a personal data management tool designed for organizing data, ranging from pictures to source codes. The update features speed enhancements and external document linking. According to DEVONtechnologies:

DEVONtechnologies updates its revolutionary information manager and freeform database to version 1.6 and makes it much faster and less memory-hungry.

Without the need for indexing, DEVONthink fully or semi-automatically classifies elements, lists similar contents and words immediately using fuzzy algorithms, finds and compares text and even images, summarises texts intelligently and provides high performance concordance tools.

DEVONthink Personal Edition 1.6 has been completely overhauled internally and is now much faster overall and consuming less memory than previous versions. Creating, importing and modifying contents is up to two times faster, deletion up to 50 times. Newly created RTF or markup language contents such as XML or HTML use 10 to 15 percent less space.

Also, external documents that cannot be imported into the knowledge base, e.g. Quark Xpress or Quicktime movie files, can now be integrated into the DEVONthink workflow as links, a PDF Service makes it possible to "print" documents directly into DEVONthink as PDF contents, and PDFs can be imported as plain text using the command line utility "pdftotext".

The search field integrated into every browser window now features boolean and wildcard operators, and contents can be moved within the group hierarchy using the contextual menu. Some interface details such as the preference panel have been improved for better usability and a couple of nasty bugs have been removed.
