Daystar Technology on Friday announced a "zero downtime" option to its MAChSpeed G4 Pismo PowerBook upgrade. The kit, which enables users to perform the upgrade themselves, includes a 550MHz G4 CPU card with a 250MHz cache, Daystaris modified metal heat sink and EMI shield, XLR8 MAChSpeed Control CPU software and the necessary tools and instructions.
The kit also includes an US$85 rebate form for returning the original CPU card, EMI shield and heat sink to Daystar. In addition, Daystar offers free installation information by phone, although the company charges for live support.
Pricing for the kit is US$399, before the rebate.
