Developers: Apple Announces New Apple Design Awards, Prize Of 17" PowerBook & 23" Cine

A pple has officially announced the Eighth Annual Apple Design Awards, a program designed to acknowledge the best development in the Mac OS X market. Part of this yearis World Wide Developer Conference, the Apple Design Awards will acknowledge seven winners in seven categories, along with seven runners-up.

Winners earn a hardware prize and a trophy, as well the right to advertise the award when marketing the product. The hardware prize package is a 17" PowerBook, along with a 23" Cinema Display HD (along with an ADC/DVI adapter). The winner in the Student category gets the PowerBook and travel and lodging to the WWDC itself. From the WWDC site:

Announcing the Eighth Annual Apple Design Awards, focused exclusively on Mac OS X, a super-modern operating system that combines the power and stability of UNIX with the simplicity and elegance of the Macintosh.

The Apple Design Awards recognize innovation, advanced Mac OS X look and feel, use of Apple technologies in our developersi Mac OS X-based products, and new, exciting, and high quality product entries to the Mac OS X market, including an all new Server Solution category.

Seven Apple Design Award winners and seven runners-up will be announced in the following categories:

  • Best Mac OS X Product
  • Best Mac OS X Student Product
  • Best Mac OS X User Experience
  • Best Mac OS X Technology Adoption
  • Best Mac OS X Use of Open Source
  • Best Mac OS X Server Solution
  • Most Innovative Mac OS X Product

In addition to some awesome hardware prizes, winners will receive a trophy and the right to use the associated prize logo to market their products, not to mention the hard-won respect of their peers. Runners-up will receive an award as well as the right to use the associated prize logo to market their products.

The Eight Annual Apple Design Awards is open to developers in many regions around the world including the United States, Canada (including Quebec this year!), Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peopleis Republic of China, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
