Doom 3 Coming to Mac, But For G5 Macs Only

· by Brad Gibson · News

Aspyr Media announced Wednesday it will be publishing a Mac version of its action/adventure game Doom 3. The bad news is it will only work on G5-equipped Macs, meaning no current Apple laptop will be able to run the popular game.

The game is under development for the Mac by id Software, and will be available next February, the company said.

Doom 3 is the latest installment of the shoot iem up series that features both single-player and multiplayer capabilities. Players can fight the forces of evil as a lone marine or battle other marines in team or deathmatch-based multiplayer modes.

The company said the game will require the as yet unavailable version of Mac OS X v10.3.6, a G5-based at 1.5GHz or faster, 384 meagbytes of memory, with 512MB recommended, 2.2 gigabytes of hard disk space, an ATI Radeon 8500 or Nvidia GeForce3 or better 3D graphics chip with at least 32MB VRAM, and a DVD drive.

The game is rated "M" for "Mature" by the ESRB and is available for preorder at www.aspyr.com for $49.99.
