EU Raids Intel Offices Over Market Abuse Claims

February 11th, 2008 at 2:00 PM - News by Jeff Gamet

Intelis Munich, Germany, offices were paid a surprise visit on Tuesday when European Union competition regulators raided the facility. The raid spawned from claims that Intel is abusing its market position in Europe, according to the BBC.

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy confirmed that the raid took place and added "As is our normal practice, we are co-operating with authorities."

The European Commission only said that it had conducted "unannounced inspections" at a chip makeris offices. It appears that EU inspectors may have also raided the offices of several of Intelis part suppliers including DSG International.

The investigation began when Intel competitor AMD made claims that Intel rewarded customers with rebates and incentives for delaying or canceling orders for AMD-based products.

A closed hearing of Intelis case is scheduled for March 11 and 12 in Brussels. Intel claims it has done nothing wrong and is "confident" that it has acted within the law.
