Epson Intros Six New Printers

Epson on Monday introduced six new printers aimed at home users as well as the small office/home office (SOHO) environment. One was a single-function model, the Stylus C88, while the other five were multi-function machines: the Epson Stylus CX7800, CX5800F, CX4800, CX4200 and CX3810. All of the new printers use Epsonis new DURABrite Ultra pigment ink.

The US$79 Stylus C88, which is available now, offers print speeds up to 22 ppm (pages per minute) in black and 12 ppm in color. It includes a USB 2.0 port as well as a parallel print port for wired networking.

The Stylus CX7800, which will ship in September with a $179 price tag, offers black and color printing of 20 ppm and 19 ppm, respectively. It includes a 1.5-inch LCD screen and can scan slides and negatives at 2400 x 2400 dpi resolution, while photos and documents can be scanned at 1200 x 2400 dpi.

The CX5800F will be available later this fall, according to Epson, and will include a $30 mail-in rebate that will bring its price down to $149. Its print speeds are the same as the CX7800, but its scanning capability is limited to 1200 x 2400 dpi.

The CX4800, which is available now for $129, offers features similar to the CX5800F. The CX4200, which will ship next month for $99, includes the same features as the CX4800, minus its slots for accepting various flash storage cards.

Finally, the CX3810 is available now for $69, after a $20 mail-in rebate. It can scan at resolutions up to 600 x 1200 dpi.

No other information about any of these printers was available because Epson did not have product pages on its Web site as The Mac Observer posted this article.
