Esquire Magazine Names Apple’s Head Designer Among "Best & Brightest Who Will Revolutionize

November 4th, 2002 at 2:00 PM - News by Bryan Chaffin

Appleis head industrial designer, Jonathan Ive, has been the recipient of numerous awards since the introduction of the Bondi-Blue iMac. Today, Esquire Magazine has given him a new one. The menis magazine has included Mr. Ive in a list of what it says are the 43 "Best and Brightest People Who Will Revolutionize the World." The 43 honorees are grouped in four categories: Society, Business, Science, and Culture. Mr. Ive was included in the culture category. From a press release issued by Esquire:

Baltimore Mayor Martin OiMalley, CEOs David Neeleman (JetBlue) and Ed Breen (Tyco), NASAis Mars specialist Dave Lavery, genetic scientist Eugene Chan, and actors Samantha Morton and Ryan Gosling are among the 43 innovators Esquire magazine has named to its "Best and Brightest" list of emerging leaders who are reshaping our world.

The "Best and Brightest" constitutes a roster of extraordinary talent, representing, as former President Bill Clinton writes in his foreword to the issue, the "deep well of greatness" that exists in America. The list is divided into four categories: society, culture, business and science. For more than a year, Esquire editors researched, interviewed, discussed, and identified scores of pioneers who are blazing the trail to a better world.

"This issue is about hope," says Esquire Editor-in-Chief David Granger. "The search in and of itself was inspiring. It became clear that ours is a land of dreamers who become doers. And as amazing as our honorees are, they merely represent the potential that is manifest in our country."

The full list of recipients in the Culture category:

Jonathan Safran Foer - Author
Jenny Gage - Photographer
Anna Gaskell - Photographer
Ryan Gosling - Actor
Jonathan Ive - Head Designer of Apple
Charlie Kaufman - Screenwriter
Nicole Krauss - Author
Paul Liebrandt - Chef
Malerie Marder - Photographer
William Massie - Architect
Samantha Morton - Actress
The Neptunes - Music producers
Van Toffler - President of MTV
Will Wright - Creator of Sims computer games

The magazine says that all of the honorees in the list will be profiled in the issues that hits stands on November 7th. You can read the full list of recipients in the Esquire press release. You can find more information on Esquire at the magazineis Web site. It should be noted that Jonathan Ive is British born. Though the Esquire press release indirectly suggests that its list is of US citizens, the list is actually of people who have had an impact on "American life."
