FireWire Depot Releases Ultra-fast FireWire Drive Enclosure

· by Kyle D\'Addario · News

FireWire Depot has released a new line of drive enclosures based on the new Oxford 911 chip. The new chip allows FireWire based drives to achieve much higher speeds than previous models by overcoming the problems associated with ATA/IDE bridges. According to FireWire Depot:

FireWire Depot (www.fwdepot.com) is proud to present the first of an expanding line of FireWire hard disk enclosures with the new Oxford 911 chip - the CG911 3.5" FireWire enclosure.

As noted on BareFeats (http://www.barefeats.com/fire17.html), the Oxford 911 chip takes FireWire to a new level of performance (based on the hard drive mechanism used).

"This is just the start" according to FireWire Depot. "There are more devices coming soon... We have been working with our hardware manufacturers and with some software developers to bring the consumer the best there is on the market."

FireWire Depot is pleased to bring the CG911 enclosure to market, and our other manufacturers are all in the process of finalizing their designs. We expect to have more 911 based solutions available in the next 30 days.

The CG911 3.5" enclosure is available for US$139. You can find more information at the FireWire Depot Web site.
