The Mozilla Developer Center announced on Tuesday that Firefox 3.1 Alpha is now available for download. This release is intended for developers and testers only.

This alpha release is built on a pre-release of the Gecko 1.9.1 engine, adds support for border images, adds improvements to the Smart Location Bar and introduces a new tab switching behavior.

Mozilla emphasizes that this Alpha version is intended for testing only. Standard precautions should be taken and the release notes read.

Firefox 3.1 Alpha versions for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux were posted.
