FirmTek on Thursday said that it is now shipping its SeriTek/2SM2-E ExpressCard SATA adapter card for the MacBook Pro, providing those users with a means to stream live video directly to their hard drives. Apple dropped the previous standard, PC Card, in favor of ExpressCard when it introduced the MacBook Pro in January.
FirmTek first introduced the new adapter at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in April. The company is shipping the product a month ahead of its original schedule. Pricing is US$119.95, with bundles that include hot-swappable drive enclosures also available. The adapter is also compatible with Boot Camp, as well as any Windows XP or Linux laptop that has an ExpressCard slot.
