First Crop Of Summer Movie Trailers!

< I>Every week, Vern Seward takes a look at Appleis latest offerings at the QuickTime Trailer site, letting your know whatis new.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Summer movie floodgates have just been opened. Appleis QuickTime Movie Trailer site has been swamped with so many trailers that we canit go into depth on a lot of them. Thereis a lot to go through, so letis get cracking.

Lights! Action!

There are two new X-Men 2 trailers, one new trailer for Terminator 3, and a new Hulk trailer, all of which are fun to watch (OK, maybe you can skip T3.). The Hulk trailer is interesting in that it gives a better perspective of the size of the Hulk, and, taken in that new context, the scene where the Hulk takes the tank for a spin doesnit look quite as silly as in the original trailer. Check it out and see if you agree.

Another action movie due out this Summer depicts a Hollywood version of real life heroes, the men and women who make up the various S.W.A.T. units in many of our big cities. A stellar cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Ferrall, and LL Cool J, make stars of the cops who do the job for real. Looks really good.

Itis Spooky

Remember that sleeper horror flick, Jeepers Creepers? It left a lot of unanswered questions about what the winged monster was and why it did what it did. Hopefully, many of those questions will be answered in the sequel that is aptly named Jeepers Creepers 2. You see a lot more of the bat-winged thing as it attacks a school bus full of teens. (Ever wonder why movie monsters always attack and eat teens after midnight? Because the Colonel closes at eleven.) Jeepers, that looks like fun!

Another horror movie due for release is titled after the main character, May. Imagine a woman, rather plain in appearance, who obsesses about the best physical attribute of others. Now imagine that woman wanting to combine all of those choice parts, with a sewing machine and a bone saw. Now, thatis creepy.

On The Serious Side

There are a bunch of dramas, semi-dramas, and quasi-dramas due out soon. House of Fools is a Russian flick about a girl who dreams of love and a wonderful life amidst the staggering horror of her real life.

Till Human Voices Wake Us is not a sequel to Spielbergis A.I. but is a drama about a man who returns home and faces his troubling past in the form of a mysterious woman named Ruby.

Respiro is an Italian movie about a woman whose actions seem odd enough by those around her, including her husband, to send her to a mental institution. Fortunately for her, the womanis son knows better and fights to help her stay free.

Owning Mahowny stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a gambler whose luck may be running out. Hoffan plays Dan Mahowny, a bank employee who defrauds his employer to feed his habit. Based on a true story.

Buffalo Soldiers would have been a great title for a movie about the Black Calvary-men of the Old West. Oddly, this movie is about Army Specialist Ray Elwood, who ran a black market operation out of an Army base in Germany in the late 80s. Joaquin Phoenix plays Elwood, and Scott Glenn is the new base commander Elwood ultimately confronts. We suppose you can call this one a light-hearted drama.

And Now, For Something Completely Different

We saved the best for last. Remember spelling bees? Most folks try very hard to forget them, and those people may be saddened to learn that spelling bees are alive and well in America, as the documentary Spellbound will attest. If you ever watch the mocumentary, Best of Breed, then you have an idea of what to expect from Spellbound, except that itis all real. Just watching the trailer is a lot of fun so we have high hopes for the movie.

Thatill do it this week. Baseball fans will want to check out Dirt on Their Skirts, an on-demand video about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the league on which the movie A League Of Their Own was based. Good viewing.
