HP Launches Networked, Secure, PC-free Scanner

Hewlett-Packard announced their new networked HP Scanjet 7650n networked, flatbed scanner on Wednesday that can scan documents and forward them, securely, over a network without a computer attached. Scanned documents can be forwarded to, for example, e-mail, ftp, printers or shared directories.

The flatbed scanner, designed for small to mid-size businesses and small workgroups, can scan at 12 ppm (6 ppm securely), and includes a document server to send documents to a wide variety of destinations.

Features include:

  • Seamlessly integrate the secure HP Scanjet 7650n Networked Document Flatbed Scanner into an existing TCP/IP-supported network using the included document server.
  • Scan and send files directly to numerous network locations, including e-mail, FTP, URL, Web browsers, printers and more as PDF, JPEG, TIFF and other types ? no PC needed.
  • Easily set up and configure the network document server with an intuitive, user-friendly Web interface.
  • Transfer important documents throughout the network with security features such as SMTP and LDAP authentication that securely protect digital files.

The HP Scanjet 7650n is expected to ship in June, and is priced (street) at US$999.00.
