Hitachi Adds 16,000 Japanese Units to Battery Recall

Hitachi on Friday joined the recall of Sony batteries, but its involvement only involves 16,000 Flora 210W and Se210 laptops sold in Japan, according to IDG News. The company doesnit use Sony batteries in any of its other products, and hasnit received any complaints from users.

The Sony laptop battery recall currently involves nearly eight million laptops sold by Dell, Apple, Toshiba, Lenovo and IBM, and Fujitsu. Dell is recalling the most, with 4.1 million laptops affected, while Apple is second with 1.8 million MacBook Pro, iBook, and PowerBook notebooks involved. HP says that its laptops are set up to prevent overheating while Acer is still investigating whether or not its products should be recalled.

Sony is currently working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on a global battery replacement program.
