Icon Art Taken To A New Level

Kinetic Creations has released a new version of Export Icon. Version 1.5 of the Adobe Photoshop plug-in allows uers to export Photoshop files directly as Mac OS icons. This allows icon artists to take full advantage of the creation tools of Photoshop to make high-quality, visually appealing icons. According to Kinetic Creations:

Kinetic Creations, Inc. has released a public beta of Export Icon version 1.5, an update to the Adobe Photoshop plug-in that allows users to export Photoshop images directly as Mac OS icons.

The Export Icon plug-in enhances Adobe Photoshop by allowing direct export of Photoshop images to MacOS custom icon files. The plug-in creates custom icons directly from Photoshop images, using the imageis pixel data to create 4, 8 and 32 bit icons of every MacOS supported size. In addition, the imageis transparency information is used to create the iconsi 1 and 8 bit masks. Export Icon creates traditional icon resources (iicl4i, iicl8i, etc.) as well as Appleis new iicnsi resource which contains all the separate icon data in a single resource. Export Icon optionally copies the data from this iicnsi resource to the data fork of the icon file for use in MacOS X. Export Icon 1.5b19 is a free upgrade for registered users of any earlier version and incorporates the following changes from version 1.1.2:

  • Added support for "Huge" (48x48 pixel) and "Thumbnail" (128x128 pixel) icons
  • Fixed other minor and not so minor bugs
  • There are no known issues with version 1.5b19
