Install Up To 7 More Hard Drives in Your G5

· by Misha Sakellaropoulo · News

MaxUpgrades has started shipping MaxConnect, a pair of mounting brackets that allow up to seven more hard drives to be installed inside a Power Mac G5 tower.

An Optical Drive Bay mounting assembly enables four 3.5-inch hard drives to be installed in place of the G5is optical drive, while a CPU Bay Drive mounting assembly supports three more hard drives at the bottom front of the system.

MaxConnect says an 8x speed increase can be realized over the single internal hard drive when the extra drives are configured as a Striped RAID 0 using Appleis built-in Mac OS X RAID software and PCI-X Serial ATA cards.

Both mounting assemblies can be purchased together for $319, or separately at $199 for the Optical Drive Bay mounting assembly and $129 for the CPU Drive Bay version.
