Iomega Ships Super DVD 16x Dual-Format USB Drive

Iomega Corp. announced Monday it has begun shipping its prd_id=20321107&FOLDER;<>folder_id=6981345&ASSORTMENT;<>ast_id=63191&bmUID=1109595883785">Super DVD Writer 16x16 Dual-Format USB 2.0 Drive, retailing for US$189.

The Super DVD Writer can create DVD+R Double Layer (DL) discs at 4x speeds. With its DL technology, users can save up to 161 hours of music, 12 hours and 45 minutes of digital video, or 34,000 photos.

Other supported formats include DVD+R and DVD+RW (16x8x8x write, rewrite, and read), DVD-R and DVD-RW (16x6x8x), and CD-R and CD-RW discs (48x24x32x).

The new drive offers single-layer recordable support at 4.7 gigabytes (GB) for Mac OS X 10.2.7 or newer with a G4 Mac or faster that has a built-in USB 2.0 connection. Double-layer recordable support (8.5GB) is provided by Mac OS 10.3.6 or higher.

The drive comes with with Macintosh-compatible automatic backup software.

Consumers who buy the new drive before April 2, 2005 will receive a $20 mail-in rebate of the $189 retail price.
