K4 Publishing System Now Supports Adobe Creative Suite 2

German developer SoftCare on Tuesday released K4 Publishing System 5.5, which brings Adobe Creative Suite 2 support to the editorial system aimed at magazines and creative agencies. K4 integrates with InDesign and InCopy, and this new version also offers several new features, including dynamic footnote support with preferred numbering and layout options, the ability to link to multiple user dictionaries, the ability to import and export word lists and more.

SoftCare also introduced the new K4 XML Exporter, which exports all K4 objects into an open XML format defined by the developer. This enables XSL transformation of the information into a final XML format that fits a publisheris specific needs, such as simultaneous preparation of online and print versions of a publication. The XML Exporter also helps publications archive articles for re-use later.

Owners of K4 version 5.0 or higher can upgrade to the new version for free under their maintenance agreement. The K4 XML Exporter is an optional purchase; contact SoftCare for pricing. K4 also now runs in Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger."
