LaCie Announces Three LED Backlit, Wide Gamut Professional Displays [UPDATED]

September 29th, 2008 at 3:00 PM - News by John Martellaro

LaCie announced on Tuesday the immediate availability, in the U.S., of three new LED-backlit professional displays in 20-, 24- and 30-inch sizes. (51, 61, 76 cm.)

The company claims that these new monitors are designed to offer the closest match between captured, displayed, and printed colors for creative professionals needing superior color accuracy.

LaCie 700 Series with LED backlighting

With RGB backlighting, the monitors are able to produce purer reds, greens, and blues not possible with conventional LCD displays. "With ultra-wide gamuts of up to 123 percent of Adobe RGB (114 percent for the 720), the need for gamut mapping is minimized thus enabling a lossless workflow from image capture to print," LaCie said.

All the Mac and PC compatible displays are bundled with LaCieis blu eye pro Proof Edition calibration software package that allows the user to calibrate and profile displays and is based on the Swiss ISO 12646 standard.

The model 720 has a 4:3 aspect ratio while the models 724 and 730 (24- and 30-inch) have a 16:10 aspect ratio. All include a USB 2 hub and the LaCie easyHood that blocks ambient light.

More detailed specifications for the 724 model include:

  • 14 bit gamma correction
  • 1920 x 1200 resolution
  • 16.77 million colors
  • 250 nit brightness (200 for the 30-inch)
  • 6 ms response time
  • 1000:1 contrast ratio
  • 7 kg weight
  • 55 W power consumption
  • DVI-I 29 pin; DVI-D 24 pin connectors
  • 3 year warranty

The LaCie 720, 724 and 730 displays are immediately available in the U.S. at the LaCie online store and LaCie resellers. They are priced at US$1599, $2299 and $4599 respectively. A Mini-D-sub 15-pin/DVI-A cable is included.

[UPDATE, Oct 1. LaCie contacted TMO and noted that the prices cited in the original press release were incorrect. The correct prices for the 720, 724 and 730 models are US$2040, $2900 and $5850 respectively.]
