Mac OS X 10.1 Released, Free In Apple Stores This Saturday

Steve Jobs officially announced today at Seybold that Mac OS X 10.1 is ready to go. The update will be available for US$19.95 if you want the update shipped to you, but the company will also be making the available free at the Apple Stores and what C|Net calls "other Mac retailers." There are no details yet as to the mechanics of just how one will be able to get the update free, and exactly which retailers will carry the update CDs.

This was first hinted at by the Wall Street Journalis Walt Mossberg earlier this month.

MacMinute is offering live coverage of the keynote, which is continuing.
